SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL CONFERENCE with international participation in memory of academician V.I. Gryshchenko to the 90th birthday
November 27th is the 90th birthday of the outstanding scientist, founder of the National reproductive medicine, Honored Science and Technology Worker of Ukraine, State Prize Winner, Academician Valentyn Gryshchenko.
Valentin Gryshchenko devoted his life to medicine. For more than 50 years he worked at Kharkiv National Medical University, chaired the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He is the author of more than 1,000 scientific works. Valentin Gryshchenko created the first in Ukraine human reproduction laboratory (later transformed into the Implant Clinic, now the Academician V. I. Gryshchenko Reproductive Medicine Clinic). The first in Ukraine successful cycle of in vitro fertilization (IVF) was accomplished in 1990 under the guidance of Academician V. I. Gryshchenko.
In honor of the 90th anniversary of its outstanding founder, the V.I. Gryshchenko Reproductive Medicine Clinic held a Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation in Kharkiv on December 2, 2018. More than 200 doctors from Kharkiv and all over Ukraine arrived to the hall of the Premier Palace Kharkiv Hotel. The conference was moderated by the academician’s grandson, Professor Mykola Gryshchenko, Director of the Clinic.
The first part of the conference was devoted to the memories of Valentin Gryshchenko. People who knew and loved him — friends, colleagues, and students — spoke in public. The daughter of the Academician Olga Gryshchenko, the Head of the Department of Perinatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Honored Science and Technology Worker of Ukraine, Professor, delivered a touching speech about her father.

Participants were granted an opportunity to listen to scientific reports after the break. A special guest of the event, a well-known international specialist in the field of assisted reproductive technologies, Prof. Dov Feldberg (Israel), gave an engrossing lecture on new ways and advanced technologies in the selection of embryos in ART. Prof. V. I. Medved, Head of the Department of Pregnant Women’s Internal Pathology, Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine was next to speak. His report was devoted to the issues of multiple pregnancy after ART treatment. The conference was concluded by a speech of Prof. M. Gryshchenko, Director of the Academician V. I Gryshchenko Reproductive Medicine Clinic, Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology No. 2 at Kharkiv National Medical University, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the School of Medicine of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, chief external expert in reproductive medicine of the Department of Health of Kharkiv City Council. Mykola Gryshchenko spoke about preimplantation genetic testing, selective transfer of a single embryo, as well as work and achievements of the Clinic.
