The IVF procedure with the use of the donor’s oocyte is a reproductive technology used when is not possible to obtain own eggs or they are not suitable for conception. For example, in the absence of the ovaries or in case of depletion of their functions, in the absence of response of the ovaries to the ovulation stimulation, in case of repeated IVF failures, obtainment of poor quality embryos. In addition, the donated eggs are used to achieve the pregnancy in females for which, for various reasons, the ovarian stimulation is contraindicated, as well as in females having genetic diseases, to avoid their transmission to the offspring.
Fertility decline with the age is a natural process, and there are currently no effective methods for replenishment of the ovarian reserve. The effectiveness of treatment for infertility in females over 35 years is significantly reduced, and thus increases the risk of chromosomal abnormalities. The risk of having babies with Down syndrome in female over 35–40 years old increases several times. The use of eggs from young female donors significantly increases the effectiveness of treatment due to the good quality of their eggs and increases the chances of having a healthy baby.
The graph shows the frequency of the onset of the pregnancy, depending on the age with the use of own and donated oocytes.
Egg donors may be:
- Individual donors (patients themselves select a suitable candidate corresponding to the requirements to the donor)
- Anonymous donors, selected and examined by the Clinic. Information on the identity of an anonymous donor is confidential. The female donor does not receive information about the patients, her eggs are designated to. Previously, the donor undergoes the full examination, which reveals whether she meets all the requirements for the egg donor. Specialists of the Clinic assess the general state of the female’s health, conduct the comprehensive examination (obligatory tests are blood tests for HIV infection, syphilis, B and C hepatitis and other sexually transmitted infections), conduct examination of the hormonal levels, as well as detect the karyotype. The obligatory requirements are: physical and mental health, the age before 35 years, having own healthy baby. Reproductologist will help you to choose the donor by desired phenotypical parameters.
The female donor gives notification of consent stating that her eggs and embryos obtained from them will be the property of the patient.
The IVF procedure with the use of the donor’s oocytes is preceded by synchronization of the menstrual cycles of the donor and the patient. After that, the donor has the ovarian stimulation, and all this time the patient takes medicines, which help to prepare the endometrium for the most successful embryo implantation. The next stage: puncture of follicles is performed in the oocyte donor under anesthesia. Fertilization of oocytes occurs by using the husband's sperm or, in the absence of the husband's sperm cells – the donor’s. After 3–5 days of cultivation in the embryology laboratory, the embryos are transferred into the uterine cavity of the patient, the same as with a normal IVF. Before the result is known, the female receives supportive therapy. In 2 weeks diagnosis of the pregnancy is carried out. If the attempt was successful, the therapy continues till the term of pregnancy of 14 weeks.
